What is the kūrpāsaka?
The kūrpāsaka is a traditional Indian blouse, thoughtfully designed with a front knot for a comfortable, adjustable fit. Stitched from soft Khun fabric, it is gentle on the skin and allows ease of movement, making it comfortable for everyday wear.
Unlike modern blouses with multiple seams and structured shaping, the kūrpāsaka follows a traditional stitching method with minimal stitching. This simple construction preserves the natural flow and drape of the fabric while staying true to its traditional design. The front knot provides gentle, natural support by holding the bust securely and comfortably, eliminating the need for a bra. Each kūrpāsaka is individually stitched to your measurements, ensuring a comfortable and personalized fit.
The Khun handwoven fabric has been traditionally used to craft the kūrpāsaka. Its soft texture and the fact that it is handwoven in the traditional way, makes it a must have! Also, when we purchase the Khun fabric, we are also supporting the traditional handloom weavers.

Washing & Care Instructions:
Your kūrpāsaka is stitched from traditional Khun fabric, woven with fine yarns and delicate craftsmanship. Like every handmade garment, it deserves gentle care and a little love.
Wash by hand only using cool or lukewarm water.
Hand wash gently using a natural soap or natural cleansing powder. Avoid detergents and harsh soaps.
Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
Do not scrub or use a brush, as the delicate weave and fine yarns may get damaged.
Avoid soaking for long periods.
Dry in the shade and avoid direct, harsh sunlight.
Do not use fabric softeners or artificial fragrances, allowing the fabric to retain its natural character.
Store folded in a clean, dry place.
A Gentle Reminder - This kūrpāsaka is more than a garment—it carries the touch of the artisan's hands and the wisdom of a traditional craft. Treat it with the same love and care with which it was stitched, and it will stay with you beautifully for years to come.
We did not set out to create the Kurpasaka.
We came across it while studying Vastra Dharana — the way of wearing clothes — as part of the Stri Dharma Paddhatiḥ course. As we explored the way clothing was understood in the Śāstras, we discovered the Kūrpāsaka, a traditional stitched upper garment mentioned in Sanskrit texts.
It made us wonder: what was it about the way our ancestors dressed that we have forgotten?
The more we explored, the more we were drawn to simplicity—less cutting, less stitching, less restriction, and more space for the body to breathe and move.
And then came the knot.
A simple front knot that allows the garment to adjust to the body and gently hold the breasts in place. No underwire.
No elastic digging into the skin. No separate bra needed.
Just cloth, a knot and the body.
For us, the Kurpasaka became a small return to an older way of thinking about clothing—not as something that controls the body, but as something that supports it while allowing it to remain free.
We make our Kurpasakas in handwoven Khun, Ikkat, and handloom cottons dyed with natural colours—bringing together a simple traditional pattern with beautiful, living textile traditions.
Perhaps sometimes, going back is also a way of moving forward.
