Small palm-leaf broom (phada)
Phada is a traditional Maharashtrian hand broom, lovingly handcrafted by bamboo artisans using carefully selected leaves from native palm trees. For generations, it has been an essential household tool, valued for its simplicity, durability, and connection to traditional living. Unlike long-handled brooms, the Phada is used by bending down while sweeping. This traditional method naturally engages the back, hips, knees, and core, making sweeping a mindful physical activity that gently exercises the body while carrying out an everyday household task.
Made of natural material, the short handle allows the action of brooming in a forward bend (Padahastasana) or squatting position (preferably Malasana). Such a posture is immensely beneficial for women, as studied in Stri Dharma.
